Former West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce told the Hammers' chief executive David Sullivan that he had the worst job in football while he was in charge of the club.
"I have got the worst job in the world. ... It’s not West Ham, it’s being a football manager. It is the most demanding, tiring, horrible job," Allardyce is reported to have told Sullivan, per James Olley at the Evening Standard.
The former Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers manager left Upton Park after a final season in which his relationship with the fans and board deteriorated.
"I thought, 'This man needs a break if that’s how you feel earning £3-£3.5million a year,'" said Sullivan.
Allardyce left West Ham in May after four seasons with the club.
